One of the most exciting and proudest moments of my life
I am a Ngarluma woman with family ties to the Kimberley and Pilbara regions in Western Australia.
In 2004 I enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws degree at Flinders University. The transition from high school to university was at times hard, isolating and challenging. What helped make it bearable and gave me confidence was the strong support from my family, the Flinders Law School and the Yunggorendi Centre.
While studying I secured a cadetship, which I can highly recommend. A cadetship allows you to experience a professional work environment, it gives you opportunities for networking and obtaining new skills and it provides you with financial assistance.
Becoming a legal practitioner was one of the most exciting and proudest moments of my life. My achievements weren’t just my own, they also belonged to my supporters and my community. I studied law because it put me in a position to make a real difference.
Give university a go and you will have the opportunity to provide a voice for your community.
