Set goals and achieve your dreams
I didn’t complete high school so I was worried when I started my degree about not being able to write well enough for university.
Fortunately, I received regular help through the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS). I also made great friends with my tutor.
Along with completing my degree I had to look after my three young daughters, run my household, and keep up with large amounts of reading and private study.
It was hard but ITAS helped me plan my time so I could keep up with everything. University was a financial challenge.
I applied for scholarships and then secured a cadetship. This helped my family live comfortably while I completed my Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Honours) at Charles Darwin University.
I am about to begin an internship with Centrelink as a Job Capacity Assessor and Intern Psychologist. Study has been an extremely positive and rewarding experience for me and I would like to encourage and motivate others to set goals and achieve their dreams.
University changed my life. I now have a career that I previously only dreamed of. Don’t feel limited by your experiences at high school, I encourage you to consider undergraduate study.
