Tell us a bit about your journey into tertiary education… What would you say have been some of the highlights of your studies so far?
“At university, what you study is completely tailored to an area that interests you. You are in the driver’s seat. I am enjoying and feel very interested in all the content that I am learning – my brain has not stopped buzzing! I feel in my element here, and I love being in control of my own learning. The independence, and responsibility that comes with it, is really empowering.”
What are your dreams and aspirations for when you finish your degree?
“To study Medicine/Surgery and become a Doctor is the big dream after I have completed my undergraduate degree. The human body really fascinates me, and improving health and helping others is something that I feel really passionate about.”
What would you say to students thinking about applying for scholarships?
“While the process of applying for scholarships can be long and boring, it is definitely worth putting in the time to do. You actually have NOTHING to lose! You will be amazed at the numbers of scholarships that go unfilled each year, just because people can’t be bothered applying.
To save time, I’d recommend typing scholarship applications, or answering the questing required on a Word document or something first that you can save, as many applications will ask the same questions. It is easier and more convenient to tweak an answer each time, rather than having to write a new one from scratch for every application.
Finally, never feel guilty or embarrassed about getting a scholarship. It is not giving you a free pass. You have earned it, and scholarship donors want to help you achieve your dreams.”

From December 2016 you will also be able to save your search results and apply directly to some scholarships – and we will be expanding the scholarships you can apply for directly throughout 2017.
How have scholarships contributed to your educational journey and achieving your dreams and aspirations?
"I’ve applied for and received a number of scholarships including: Indigenous Access Scholarship, Defence Indigenous University Support Program (DIUSP), ITNewcom Indigenous Scholarship and Deakin’s Scholarship for Excellence.
Being awarded these scholarships has massively helped alleviate the financial burden for me, and the stress of needing to work and commute, as well as study. It enabled me to move away from home and put my learning and future ambitions first. As I now have more time outside classes, I am able to put it to better use to help ensure that my future ambitions come true, and work towards being the best doctor that I can be."
