Distance and Online Education
Online Education for Vocational Training
Online and distance learning vocational courses let you train for a new career at your own pace. They are worth considering if you have a lot of other commitments or you are unable to relocate to the campus which offers your course.
Open Colleges is an accredited VET provider which offers online and distance education courses across Australia.
Watch the Open Colleges video to find out more about benefits of studying online.
Distance study is also available for select courses directly through some TAFEs. If you are looking to study via distance, contact the TAFE offering your course to see if it is an option.
Online Education for University Study
Open Universities Australia collaborates with many Australian universities, offering you the possibility to study online via distance.
Their academic calendar offers four study periods per year. This gives you the option to fast track your study, or to take breaks if needed, such as focusing on seasonal work or personal commitments.
Your qualification will come directly from the university that provides your course. You will receive the same degree certificate as an on-campus student of that same university and qualification.
In addition to Open Universities Australia, there are a number of online study options available. Some work in collaboration with physical universities and offer the same degree as the on campus course at that particular university, while others function as a higher education institute in their own right.
Studying via distance gives you a lot more flexibility but it also requires a lot more independent learning and organisation.
