NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships and Awards
Postgraduate scholarships are awarded in the following categories:
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Research Postgraduate Scholarship
Clinical Research Postgraduate Scholarship
Dora Lush Biomedical Research Postgraduate Scholarship
Public Health and Health Services Research Postgraduate Scholarship
Part-time Research Postgraduate Scholarship
Co-funded Partnership Scholarship
Gustav Nossal Scholarship
Scholars can still apply for a six-month extension in limited exceptional circumstances however they can no longer apply for a six-month extension in order to write their thesis;
Scholarships awarded for a MSc will not be extended if converting to a PhD. This condition has not changed from previous years, but has not been explicitly stated in previous funding rules. As some applicants have been under the impression that such extensions may be permitted, text has been added for clarification purposes;
Bridging support has been removed.
- not be in receipt of an Australian Postgraduate Award or equivalent Australian Government funded scholarship
- be certified and submitted by an NHMRC registered administering institution (usually their universities)
- be Australian citizens or permanent residents or New Zealand citizens holding a Special Category Visa
- The NHMRC is committed to ensuring that research into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health is of the highest scientific merit, and at least 5% of its total research funding is allocated specifically to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research.
